In the past, I have not had much of my jewelry cast in brass because I had not found an alloy that I liked. Many turned my skin green or grey after a few days of wear, which put me off. However, my long-time caster recently created a beautiful brass alloy, and I decided to have some of my braid rings and cuff bracelets cast in it because it is a less expensive yellow metal option.
This brass alloy is a nice bright yellow (quite similar in appearance to 18-karat yellow gold) and it does not turn my skin funny colors when I wear it! I have been wearing one of these thin braid rings for 2 months now, every day, and no discoloration or funkiness is happening. Every person has a different skin chemistry and therefore a different relationship to brass jewelry, so I cannot predict how it will react to everyone, but it has passed my test.
Please note: This is raw brass, it is not plated (I do not plate my jewelry because the plating always wears off) and it is not clear coated, so it will tarnish over time and need a little polish with a jeweler's cloth once in a while, especially if not being worn or stored in sealed plastic.
Each brass braid ring is approximately 2.2-2.4mm wide (dependent on size) with a depth that varies between 1.3-1.7 mm (again dependent on size). All rings are cast with recycled brass.
