Small Ether Egg Box, hand-thrown, blue & white porcelain with carved decoration, underglaze and red urushi lacquer -One of a Kind

I threw this delicate little container on the potter's wheel using a mix of lovely cobalt blue and white porcelain. It was created from a closed form. Once the closed form air-dried slightly, I carefully cut the top of the jar from the bottom of the jar on the wheel. I created and trimmed the flange and gallery, and let the pieces dry a bit more together. I then meticulously carved the pattern of swirling leaves into the top and bottom parts of the jar and applied green and yellow underglaze to the incised decoration. The 2 pieces were bisque-fired together. Chartreuse high-fire glaze was applied to the inside and a clear gloss high-fire glaze to the outside and again fired together. Finally I added a spot of red urushi lacquer with a kiss of silver dust to the inside of the top. The marbled, swirling clay reminds me of Air or "Ether". The green and red inside remind me of renewal.
This is a perfect container for your most precious, magical and tiny possessions.
The glazes used on this piece are all food-safe. Please hand wash only and please handle with care.
The dimensions are approximately 2" tall x 2.3" ( 5.5 cm x 5.8cm) wide and the weight is 4 oz (.114 kg). PLEASE NOTE: The listing pictures showing size are shot using cm rulers.
