This necklace was made as a collaboration with my friend Stephanie. She is an avid fossil collector and has a huge array of amazing fossilized teeth and shells that she has found over the years.
She approached me to make her some custom necklaces from several of her treasures and was kind enough to send me some truly stunning specimens to mold and cast in solid sterling silver.
This partially eroded Turritella shell fossil is cast in solid sterling silver and hung on an 18" (45.7cm) 1 mm wide sterling sterling venetian box chain. Turritella can also be purchased on it's own without chain (please see chain options). Both pendant and chain are partially oxidized black. The turritella measures roughly 48mm high x 9.5mm wide & deep (at widest part).
I find these spiraling , millions of years old gastropods to be fascinating and beautiful. Apparently, in the areas where these types of fossils are found, the cliff matrix is softer than the gastropod shells....so the shells are somewhat preserved.
